Kerry Museum

Travel through the ages and relive what life was like in Tralee in 1450 in the Medieval Experience at the exhibits in the Kerry County Museum which ranges back to thousands of years of human history from approximately 8,000 BC right up to the present day. The award-winning museum offers a fascinating introduction to the Kingdom’s distinctive history and heritage and is filled with an array of artefacts, interactive galleries and hands-on activities.

Immerse yourself in rich Irish history with the many interesting artefacts on display at the museum including an early medieval brooch and the duelling pistol that was once aimed and fired by the liberator Daniel O’ Connell. The museum is famous for its award-winning exhibitions including the Ashe Memorial Hall which is named after the Irish veteran of the 1916 Easter Rising, Thomas Ashe who died on prison hunger strike. Tom Crean, the Kerry born, Antarctic explorer who accompanied the Scott and Shackleton is also a popular feature at the museum.

The museum facilitates hand-on activities for all ages to enjoy including dressing up as a famous explorer to becoming an archaeologist. Walkthrough the reconstructed medieval streets and houses which are complete with sounds and smells of the era for a true historical experience.
